Amelia Georgiou is now the Cypriot National champion in both single & doubles at U/11

In the singles on Saturday (25.11.2019) amongst her other games she had to overcome an extremely difficult opponent winning a very tight match. On Sunday (26.11.2019) she won her semi-final with ease. The singles final was the most exciting match of the whole tournament with Amelia winning 21/14, 16/21, 21/19.

In the doubles she played with her friend and partner from the Parnassos club in Nicosia, Christina Pissi. It was again a thrilling match with Amelia and Christina winning 21/18, 7/21, 21/12.

Well done to Amelia for bringing back to Paphos 2 golden medals. It must be noted that on both days of National tournament Amelia received an outstanding support from her EBC team mates Thea Georgiou and Max law, as well as her coach Don Griffin, EBC members and their family. EBC presence in the National Tournament was noted both by quality and quantity.

In a short interview after the tournament Amelia pointed out that apart from the second and third decisive set in the final’s game the hardest moment in the tournament was getting her shoes on! In response to the question, what gave her strength, she referred to her dad whom she wanted to make proud. As for Amelia’s plans for next year, she promised to be focused on achieving high results in the next age group of U13 together with Max.

We’ll done, Amelia, and good luck!
