Emba Badminton Club – RULES OF PLAY

  1. It is the member’s present responsibility to ensure that all the nets are set up at the start of a session, and dismantled and put into the store room at the end of the session.
  2. Proper non-marking athletic footwear must be worn on the court areas at all time. There are NO EXCEPTIONS. No player wearing street shoes or wet court shoes will be permitted to enter the court areas. Players must change into their court shoes prior to entering the court areas.
  3. No food or drinks are permitted on the court areas.
  4. All members and visitors will follow proper court etiquette at all times. Members and visitors will conduct themselves in a manner that will not disturb other players, their matches, safety and enjoyment of the facility.
  5. There are no age restrictions for players, but there is a requirement of sufficient skill. This is determined by an assessment carried out by Don Griffin and Alexander Mandryk. Members are allocated a Green, Yellow or Red peg according to the results of assessment. Green – beginner level, Yellow – intermediate level, Red – advanced level. Visitors are given a blue peg and are advised by Club Coach, Don Griffin, their recommended “peg color”.
  6. For players choosing a game Green pegs are advised to choose from Green and Yellow, Yellow pegs – from any colour, Red pegs from Red and Yellow. Peg selection for a game is a recommended guideline rather than a strict rule.

A player that is not ready to immediately go on court cannot be chosen for a game (i.e. not changed, engaged in other activity). Players who do not want to be picked, for whatever reason, should place their peg face down to the right of the peg board.

Volunteer Activities at EBC

Emba Badminton Club is a volunteer-based club where all jobs are fulfilled by our members free of charge. From setting up the courts for play hours to the coaching of juniors and volunteer line-judging at international competitions, we entirely rely on the goodwill of our valued members.

Here are some of the volunteer jobs every member can help with. Any job can be done on a part-time basis:

–          Key-holder for the badminton hall and storage (opening and closing the hall and storage for play hours),

–          Setting up nets on courts at the beginning of the play hours,

–          Taking the nets away after the play hours,

–          Assisting the coaches in training of juniors,

–          Line judging at tournaments organized by KOM (Cyprus Badminton Federation),

–          Promotion of badminton and attracting new players/members to EBC.

If you wish to try your self in any of the above activities, the committee members and coaches will provide guidance and training. Our club relies on your support. Please contact us now.
